A new collectibles system has been introduced into Farmville. Essentially, you collect a series of items and when you gather all items from a collection, you can trade in that set for experience and coins.
You can get these collectibles by friends gifting them to you, plowing, harvesting trees, harvesting animals, and fertilizing friends plots. If you visit the collectables screen and move your mouse over each item, it will give you a hint on how to find it.

Have you ever been plowing away on your farm and noticed a giant yellow coin popping out of the ground? Ever tried running after it with your avatar to catch it? What does it all mean?
If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, you’re not alone. Every time you see one of these coins pop out of the ground, it’s worth 50 coins in your bank. If the coin appears, you’ve received the bonus. You don’t have to run after it to get the money. The faster you plow, the more likely you are to get these bonuses. Having a tractor helps.
Note that Zynga’s official Farmville FAQ states that the flipping coin is worth 100 coins but this is incorrect. It’s actually only worth 50.

Hello Y’all. I’ve updated the Market Inventory page with all the lovely crops up to level 20 (because that’s where I’m at right now). This inventory page measures the expected profit and experience you can gain from each crop over a week’s time. Grapes currently are the most profitable crop a level 20 can plant.

Yesterday we posted an article about gaining coins from the successes of your friends. Here’s another tip to make getting those freebies even easier.
On your Facebook home page which shows the activity stream for all of your friends, click on more on the left column, then click on Farmville. This will show you all Farmville related activity for all of your friends. Be sure to check it every day so you can share the wealth before the celebrations expire.

Perhaps one of the reasons Farmville has become so successful is because it does a lot of stream spam on your Facebook wall, thereby giving Zynga free advertising. In most cases, I do not like to participate in the spam and do not allow Farmville to publish updates to my farm on my Facebook feed. However there are certain times when this can be beneficial to your farming buddies. Whenever you get a new ribbon or special achievement, a Farmville notice will appear asking you to “share the wealth.” If you see this button, click on it to post the message to your Facebook wall. This will allow your friends to benefit from your success.
You as well can benefit from your friends ribbons and successes. Just click on the [Get a bonus] link and you can get coins for doing almost nothing. I’ve earned as much as 250 coins from clicking on one of those links. Note that you’ll have to click this link within a certain time period in order to get the bonus. My best guess is that its something like 12 hours.

This tip is particularly useful if you are just starting to play Farmville when coins and experience go a long way.
If you launch the Farmville game and click on the My Neighbors tab at the top, then one of your random friends that plays farmville may appear asking for help with their farm (though they aren’t really performing an action to ask for help).

Typically its something like “raking the leaves,” “scaring the crows,” or “pulling weeds.” These seemingly mundane tasks are completed with just a couple quick clicks and gain you 20 coins and 5 experience points.

Note that these friends do not need to be your Farmville Neighbors. Farmville just automatically pulls from your Facebook friends list for Farmville players. You can help out on each of your friends farms about once per day. Keep clicking on the My Neighbors tab to see randomly generated friends that need help on their farm.

Currently you can buy Cows, Chickens (level 4 required), and Sheep (level 7 required) in Farmville. But let me tell you why its a bad idea to spend your well earned coins on livestock.
A sheep costs 700 coins and harvests for 28 coins every three days. An apple tree also harvests for 28 coins every 3 days, but the purchase cost is only 325 coins. That’s less than half the cost! In addition, the apple tree takes up less square footage on your farm and you can start buying apple trees at level 1.
The story is similar for Cows and Chickens as well. Cows cost 300 coins and harvest every day for 6 coins. For only 225 coins, you can get a Cherry Tree and although it takes twice as long to harvest, it earns more than twice that of a cow at 18 coins. There is no value in purchasing livestock when compared to trees.
