Farmville recently started showcasing farms on the loading screen. One farm in particular has many farmers scratching their heads…

This farm depicts what looks to be hedges and fences stacked upon one another. This is in fact an optical illusion caused by the isometric perspective of the game.
Isometric perspective is an unrealistic perspective in which parallel lines do not converge at vanishing points. Most games use this type of perspective so that sprites don’t have to be changed based on their placement on the playing field.
If you want to achieve this effect, the way to do it is simple. Just place multiple fences behind one another with one unit of space between them and align the posts of the fences. There’s nothing fancy to it!

There are some aspects of Farmville that are not entirely intuitive. Many of the things you can buy for your farm are purely for decoration (though you get experience for buying them). One of those items is the fence. At first glance, you might think that you would need fences in order to keep your live stock from running away. Especially after seeing all those messages from other farmers saying “A lonely sheep has wandered onto your farm.” But in fact, your livestock will stay right where you put them. Fences are purely for decoration and are not needed to keep your livestock from escaping.
